Why Bother ?

Lots of people say Neil and David are lucky to be alive. The two of them very nearly drowned at sea when their ship hit a sand bank on their ship’s maiden voyage. Fortunately for them as they were going down a local fisherman turned up, from out of nowhere, picked them up and looked after them until lifeguards arrived to take them to hospital.

Now let’s think about it – they’d have been pretty stupid to stay on their ship and ignore the fisherman’s rescue offer. Their boat was sinking and, without help, they were staring death in the face!! – but of course they wanted to live!!.. WE ALL DO! We all value our own lives!

When you hear the word Christianity you may think ‘church’, ‘organ’ or … but for the moment I want to forget about Church and look at the real backbone of Christianity – the claims of Jesus! Does Jesus’message has anything to offer you today, in YOUR OWN life?

St Augustine was a follower of Jesus in the 4th century and he suggested that every one of us has a God shaped hole in our hearts. He is right. The trouble is most people fill that hole with second rate substitutes. Some of them are good in their own right (sport, career, family even) but the truth is God wants to show us that when He fills it we can do more than enjoy life, we can live it to the full.

So why bother filling the hole with Jesus? I would have thought the answer was pretty obvious by now. Jesus is somewhat similar to a man offering us rescue from a sinking ship! One day we’re all going to die – we need to ask ourselves when that happens, where we are headed! Jesus reckons he can show us how to get the most out of this life, and even better still, how we can avoid hell in the next.

Why not look into some of his claims? How can you say you don’t agree with something if you’ve never even tried it! And I reckon you’ve got nothing to lose! If it’s true you’ll discover how to live life to the full and you’ll spend the rest of eternity glad you were a RISK TAKER……

Think about it. Jesus said…. “If you try to live your life yourself you will lose it. But if you give up your life for me you will find true life”. How do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lost your soul in the process. Is anything worth more than your soul?

Do you want a life filled with excitement, adventure and endless possibilities? Do you want to fill all the potential you have as a human being and make the most of the life that you have? Jesus said He can show you how to do that!!!! Do you want to see if He was right……… then keep reading!!! Better still start trusting - as rugby star Jason Robinson did.
